Before Sarah Jessica Parker took on the role of Carrie, two future “Sex and the City” colleagues auditioned for the part.

Cynthia Nixon (57) as Miranda and Kristin Davis (58) as Charlotte have been shaping the “Sex and the City” franchise for a quarter of a century. But before the start of the series, they auditioned for another part: for the lead role of Carrie, which later went to Sarah Jessica Parker (58). The stars revealed this in one go Podcast for “And Just Like That…”, the late sequel to the cult series. The occasion was the 25th birthday of “Sex and the City”. Carrie and Co. first aired in the United States on June 6, 1998.

“Not Really”: Cynthia Nixon on her audition as Carrie

“I auditioned and they said, ‘Yeah, not really,'” Cynthia Nixon recalls on the podcast. But she really wanted to be part of the series, which was filmed in the middle of New York, which is rare. She asked the creators if they didn’t have another role for her in “Sex and the City.”

So she finally got the part of the lawyer Miranda. But only after a few months of waiting and after her agent had downright begged those responsible for “SATC”. When the producers later negotiated with Sarah Jessica Parker, they used Cynthia Nixon as leverage to get the desired actress accepted. Parker revealed this on the podcast.

Kristin Davis turned down the role of Carrie

Kristin Davis was also asked by the creators of “Sex and the City” for Carrie at the time. Although they had already hooked up with Sarah Jessica Parker. But Davis declined. She didn’t like the character who smoked and cursed earlier in the script. The description of Carrie as a woman with the character of actress Heather Locklear (61) and the mind of writer Dorothy Parker (1893-1967) does not fit her. “What are you thinking?” She said at the time, according to her own statement.

From the start, Kristin Davis wanted to play the role of the prudish gallery owner Charlotte. “I’m that other girl who’s underrepresented in the script,” the actress said. “But I understand her, okay. I have to be her.”

The second season of “And Just Like That…” starts on June 22, 2023 on Sky.
