Sexual violence: in the United States, pedophilia cases are well regulated

It’s International Children’s Rights Day. Penalties that vary depending on the state

Pedophilia cases most often depend on the jurisdictions of each state. So the penalties vary if you’re in Alabama, California, or Florida. But as a general rule, for the most serious crimes, it can range from 15 to 25 years in prison, or even life. Florida goes even further. Since last month, a new law authorizes the death penalty for rape of minors under 12 years old. So, in the case where child molesters have served their sentence, numerous obligations are imposed on them.

In around ten states, certain repeat offenders will have to submit to chemical castration. But in all cases, child molesters are prohibited from having a job that would put them in contact with minors. They are not even allowed to live near places frequented by children. And above all, they must register on a sex offender register. Records that must be made available to the public. Moreover, on Halloween, every year, authorities across the country publish local maps with the addresses of these pedophiles so that no child rings their doorbell to ask for candy.
