A colorful flower bed blooms only in sun-drenched corners? Not even close. We reveal here which plants also thrive in the shade and semi-shade.

Not everyone has a south-facing balcony or garden, which fortunately does not mean that the owner has to do without beautiful flowers! The following 30 plants bring beautiful splashes of color to any shade garden.

Plants for the shade: masterwort

The Great Masterwort (Astrantia major) grows up to 70 cm high and is suitable for flower beds, ponds and meadows.

Not all plants need a lot of sun, some are content with a partially shaded location. The following are also satisfied with a few hours of sun per day:

Even without sun, a garden does not have to lead a desolate existence. The following perennials, ground cover & co. can be used as shade plants:

  6. forest marbel
  7. silver candle

  9. Waldsteinia
  10. liverwort

Suitable as ground cover in the shade or semi-shade: the elf flower, the fat man, the Waldsteinia and ivy. Nothing is lost for the shady location under trees, even if they require a lot of space for themselves. Ferns, hostas and also the elf flower fit perfectly into this environment.
