Shakira: separated from Gerard Pique, she risks prison and makes a radical decision

The musician is in the sights of the Spanish tax authorities for a case of fraudwhich risks leading her to prison for many years.

Indeed, the Barcelona public prosecutor’s office announced on Friday July 29, 2022 that it would request more than 8 years in prison for tax fraud against the Colombian staras reported by theAFP. Claiming her innocence, Shakira had taken a radical decision 2 days earlier by categorically refusing to conclude an agreement with the prosecution, because she wanted to go to trial. However, the artist’s lawyers have clarified that the possibility of an agreement being reached between their client and the Barcelona public prosecutor’s office by the start of the trial is still relevant.

Shakira: the Spanish tax authorities claim more than 14 million euros from the singer

Following the announcement of the Spanish tax justice, Shakira issued a press release to defend herself. She denounces in particular a “total violation of (his) rights” and “abusive methods” from the Barcelona Public Prosecutor’s Office. Moreover, the singer, who is “confident that justice will prove him right”, affirm that the Spanish tax authorities”persists in claiming the money raised during (his) international tours and The Voice”, at a time when she was “not yet resident in Spain“. As a reminder, Shakira was one of the coaches of the American version of The Voice. Finally, the musician believes that she has “no debt to the public treasury for many years“, given that she has already paid him 17.2 million euros in the past. For its part, the Barcelona prosecution accuses Shakira of tax fraud of 14.5 million euros for the years 2012, 2013 and 2014.
