Unveiled this Saturday, July 23, at Comic-Con in San Diego and then online, the trailer for “Shazam! The Rage of the Gods” contains an easter egg that has not gone unnoticed: the cameo of the evil doll Annabelle.
Annabelle hidden star of DC movies? After appearances in Aquaman and the first Shazam!, the famous evil doll from the Conjuring-verse will return for a cameo in the sequel. And we didn’t have to wait until the release of the feature film entitled The Rage of the Gods, on December 21 in our theaters, since it shows itself from the trailer, when the hero discovers that he is not not to a shrink but a pediatrician. Among them, therefore, there is Annabelle, who seems to be looking at a Batman figurine. Seen at the bottom of the sea in Aquaman, the doll was at a pawnshop in the first part of the adventures of the hero played by Asher Angel and Zachary Levi. We must therefore believe that she caught the eye of the pediatrician (PJ Byrne), who is obviously unaware of all the misfortunes she causes.
In addition to questions of rights, the films being all produced and distributed by Warner, the presence of Annabelle can also be explained thanks to the filmography of the directors who made her appear: before plunging with Aquaman, James Wan had scene the first Conjuring, which had given rise to the spin-off Annabelle. And the second opus, The Creation of Evil, was signed David F. Sandberg, to whom we owe the two Shazams since.
It remains to be seen whether Annabelle will also be present in Aquaman 2, subtitled The Lost Kingdom, still directed by James Wan and which is now scheduled for release on March 15, 2023.
