“Shazam! Fury of the Gods” surprises viewers with the epic cameo appearance of a DC legend. This is how the amusing performance came about.

On March 16, “Shazam! Fury of the Gods”, the second “Shazam!” Opposite “ETOnline” has “Shazam 2” director David F. Sandberg (42) now reveals exactly how the hilarious cameo came about and what happened behind the scenes during the filming of the DC production.

Warning, spoilers follow for “Shazam! Fury of the Gods”

DC fans and viewers will remember that the first 2019 Shazam! movie featured a cameo appearance by Superman. However, since the Kryptonian did not have a permanent cast member at that point in the DCEU, the hero’s head was never seen in the picture.

In the grand finale of “Shazam 2”, Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot, 37) suddenly and very surprisingly appears and saves the life of the title character. Viewers have previously seen a headless Wonder Woman in Billy’s dream. Commenting on the previous scene, the director reveals, “We wanted to poke fun at the first movie where we had to hide Superman’s face.”

“It’s going to be just like the first movie”

The Wonder Woman character was “in the script from day one” for the second “Shazam!” film, as the maker explains. But at the beginning of the shooting, actress Gadot was not available due to scheduling conflicts. Therefore, a double was initially used for her scenes, which caused director Sandberg to fear that the headless cameo appearance from the first film could be repeated.

Eventually, according to Sandberg, the busy Israeli actress found the time to shoot the DC movie. “But then we actually got to shoot with Gal,” says the filmmaker, adding, “That allowed us to have fun with it because if she hadn’t come and we were teasing all those things, the audience would have been really angry.” . Fortunately, a repetition of the headless Superman appearance could be avoided.

“Shazam 2” makers are not ruling out the third part and Gal Gadot’s DC future

The US colleagues also asked “Shazam 2” director Sandberg about the future DCU under the new co-bosses James Gunn (56) and Peter Safran (57). “I do not know [ihre] Complete plans,” the filmmaker explained in this regard, but according to his understanding, nothing stands in the way of further “Shazam” parts in principle. “You could make more ‘Shazam’ films if you want to,” says Sandberg.

And the director does not want to rule out a future for actress Gadot as Wonder Woman. “I don’t know, but I think she will still be there,” Sandberg said. So “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” would not yet mark the DC farewell of the popular actress, which is quite possible given the current status.
