Apple announced this week the deployment, on the iOS version of Shazam, of a feature expected for years on the service: the detection of songs directly from headphones.

The Shazam application on iOS has taken a giant leap, awaited for years. Apple announced this Thursday that the service is now capable of identifying songs currently playing on an application… even when headphones are plugged in or connected. A small revolution for Shazam, which until now seemed crippled in this context, forcing users to impractical and not always effective manipulations.

In the notes for version 17.3 of the application for iPhone and iPad, we discover that this era is over. Through this extended listening, Shazam is also capable of recognizing songs broadcast around you, or in another application, such as Instagram or TikTok, underlines 9to5Mac.

Your headphones no longer scare Shazam

You can now recognize music when wearing headphones (wired or Bluetooth). Simply open the app, check the headphone icon to confirm it’s connected, then start recognizing music around you or in apps like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube», Explains Apple about the latest update of Shazam… which it has owned since 2017.

Let’s remember that it was already possible (for several years) to identify a song in an application, but not in such a flexible way and not with connected headphones. The new features brought with version 17.3 of Shazam for iOS are therefore more than welcome.

Finally, let us point out that despite the acquisition of Shazam by Apple, and the deployment of these new features for the moment only on iOS, it is not necessary to have AirPods to benefit from song recognition directly in the headphones. Detection can (fortunately) be done on any type of headset or earphones.
