In this program, the 60-year-old actress lifts the veil on a painful past which she kept secret all these years. “I’m 11, it’s nighttime, I’m sure of it. You tear my sleep just like you silently tear my nightgown”, she remembers. “And if my father, my mother, my school, my friends don’t see anything, everything could start again. You will start again for four years”, she adds.
If she does not want to disclose the identity of her attacker, Emmanuelle Béart wanted breaking the taboo around incest by sharing her story for the first time. In an interview with the newspaper Release, she explained that the idea of this documentary was not to draw light on her, but on the subject. “Incest is a collective trauma,” she declared. “I think silence is a terrifying thing, silence kills”, she said. “I think the children and adults have broken the silence, it is now up to us to learn to listen to what is said and it is also necessary that the entire judicial chain in particular be up to the task. of this word which is taken by children and parents”, she concluded. According to the Ciivise (Independent Commission on Incest and Sexual Violence Against Children), launched in January 2021, 160,000 children are victims of sexual violence each year in France and 5.5 million adults were victims as children, most often within their families.
