In March 2021, Tifany had just celebrated her 21st birthday. She was swept away by the coronavirus, just three days after feeling the first symptoms, reports The Meuse in an article from April 23, 2021. According to Yves Van Laethem, infectious disease specialist, the young woman was the victim of a “Lightning Covid”, which is a case “quite rare”. “My daughter did not smoke, drink or take drugs. She was slightly overweight, but had no medical history. She did not have hypertension or diabetes …”, says the mother of the victim to the regional media.

This disease does not only strike the elderly

It took only 24 hours for Tifany’s health to deteriorate dramatically. His death was announced just after his transfer by ambulance to Arlon hospital. “She had not seen her friends since September 2020 and she always had her hydroalcoholic gel in her bag and wore her mask at all times …,“explains, helpless, his father. “If there is one lesson that can be learned from all these events, it is that this disease does not strike only the elderly”, adds his mother. The city of the young woman, but also all of Belgium is in mourning and thinks of all these other victims of the coronavirus. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Tifany Lieffring, a gentle, generous student and much appreciated by those around her”, can we read on Facebook page from the Étienne Lenoir d’Arlon Technical Institute, in which Tifany was educated.
