She had suffered martyrdom in the woods: a terrible cold case solved more than thirty years after the facts

In the United States, the young Michelle Koski, aged 17, was raped, strangled and beaten to death in 1990. 32 years later after this terrible news item, the investigators have finally discovered the identity of her murderer thanks to the progress of DNA analysis.

A miscellaneous incident finally resolved. On August 25, 1990, a woman walking her dog in the woods near a lake on the outskirts of Seattle, Washington, discovered the body of Michelle Koski, 17 years old. The young woman had been missing for five days. She was rapedstrangled and finished off with a piece of concrete. On the spot, the police found traces of DNA, but it didn’t match any known people in their files.

The file was finally reopened in 2005 by a retired detective with a specialist in cold cases (old unsolved legal cases). However, it will be necessary to wait for progress made in comparing DNA with genealogical databases to discover the identity of the murderer.

All this allowed a DNA specialist to orient himself towards the trail of two brothers. But one of the two Robert Brookswas already in the system since it was released from prison 4 months before the murder. Incarcerated for a minor offence, the man, who was 22 at the time, lived with his parents, a few steps from the Koski family home

The murderer who died in 2016

We believe Michelle met someone she knew who brought her into the woods so they could drink. The person probably intended to have sex and didn’t want to. She probably tried to run away and he knocked her down and strangled hersaid Jim Scharf, the detective with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office in 2012, reported by Fox 13.

But Robert Brooks is died in 2016, at age 49, from natural causes. A few days before being murdered, Michelle Koski had just celebrated her 17th birthday. “Every time she threw a birthday party, she got sick from being so excited.”said the victim’s mother, Violent Simonson, relieved to know the truth today: “I thought I would take this mystery to my grave”.
