It’s a dramatic story of a woman who lost her sight due to her doctor’s misdiagnosis.
His doctor diagnosed him with “hay fever”. Nothing abnormal or very worrying. But Karolina saw her life turn upside down in 2007, when she felt like something was stuck in her eye and she was prone to dizziness. “I started to feel like there was something in my right eye, like a constant eyelash. Then one day I was picking up my eldest daughter, Natalie, from school and I tripped There’s a stage I didn’t see When I got home and I took my glasses off, I realized my vision was really blurry.”
Pregnant with her second child, Karolina sees her health deteriorate. She says her GP told her it was “just hormonal”. “He sent me home” Karolina recalls. MBut the more the weeks pass, the more his sight deteriorates. Karolina decides to go see a professional “The optician looked at me and said ‘you have to go straight to the hospital’. A meningioma tumor measuring approximately 6 cm was discovered in his brain. Unfortunately, no operation was possible because the tumor was around his optic nerve.
“I am now blind in this eye”
Karolina then lost the sight of her diseased eye. “I lost six weeks during which they could have saved my sight. But it was too late. I am now blind in that eye. My GP sent me a letter of apology, but I felt so angry. And the more I talked to people, the more I realized that I wasn’t the only one who had been misdiagnosed. I know GPs are under pressure, but when women raise issues we are turned away. It’s like ‘you’re too emotional or too dramatic, don’t worry about that'”.
