She pretends that the skin peels during menstruation

A hoax broadcast on TikTok suggests that the skin seriously peels after menstruation … A joke that makes us laugh, but only half because (too) many people have fallen into the trap.

The joke says a lot about the taboo that there is always around periods … On TikTok, model Dakota Fink posted a video to make people believe that menstruating shed their skin during menstruation. The clip is called “How could they not know?” and, in voiceover, we hear “Back to the days when men didn’t know we had to peel off layers of our skin after our period”, and we see the TikTokeuse carefully peel its “skin”.

In reality, it’s nothing more than a peel-off mask that Dakota Fink pulls off. In the comments, many people made the hoax last by saying that it also happened to them during menstruation. “Thank you so much for standardizing this! Women don’t need to be insecure about this!”, jokes the athlete Victoria Garrick. Others confirm: “Every month! It’s so boring!”, writes someone, while a woman recounts having started to lose her skin very young and that she was teased at school because of it.

This joke could have made us die of laughter but, in reality, we laughed yellow … And for good reason, many people, men but also women, believed it. “So that’s true… For all the girls, women and non-binary men who periodically get their period, I’m so sorry you have to go through so much”, writes a young man. His comment is rather attentive, if all of this was not completely wrong.

One more proof, if needed, that periods are always very dark for people who do not have them. Yet everyone should be affected by this topic! But, unfortunately, it still remains largely taboo, in particular on the side of the male sex. We think, for example, of those German entrepreneurs who wanted to create menstrual gloves that were more stigmatizing than anything else, and of a British poll published in March 2021, which revealed that 70% of men felt embarrassed by talking about periods with them. their partner after six months of relationship. Just in case, then, we reassure you, peeling skin is not a symptom of menstruation.
