“She sleeps with me”: the disturbing confession of a man who made a mummy his “girlfriend”

On Saturday February 25, 2023, the Peruvian police discovered a pre-Hispanic mummy “600 to 800 years old” in the insulated bag of a former home delivery man. The 26-year-old made a very disturbing confession to them.

The story is hardly believable. On Saturday February 25, 2023, during a check in a park in Puno, the Peruvian police discovered a pre-Hispanic mummy “600 to 800 years old” curled up in the insulated bag of a former home delivery man. The 26-year-old man, named Julio Cesar Bermejo, explained to authorities that the mummy, “affectionately“baptized Juanita, had been kept in her family home ever since”almost 30 years“. He claims that it was given to his father by a policeman who owed him money.

Very attached to the mummified skeleton, the man also made very disturbing confidences to the authoritiesexplaining that he has a special relationship with the mummy. “At home, she’s in my room, she sleeps with me, he said in a video that has gone viral. I take care of her, I keep her, she’s like my spiritual girlfriend.”

“It’s not Juanita, it’s Juan”

Unfortunately for Julio Cesar Bermejo, the Ministry of Culture has “immediately ordered the seizure“from the mummy”in order to protect and preserve the heritage“. The latter was identified as “a mummified adult male, presumably from the eastern part of Puno”, who died around the age of 45. It’s not Juanita, it’s Juan“, joked a spokesman for the Ministry of Culture, specifying that the pre-Hispanic mummy would be old”600 to 800 years old“. Julio Cesar Bermejo, who denied having wanted to sell the mummy and said he wanted to show it to “friends” before making it so to a museum in the area, was remanded in custody. We do not know what his penalty is.
