“She was my family,” the actor says of Halyna Hutchins

For the first time since the fatal accident on the set of the film Rust, Alec Baldwin spoke in front of the camera. Images of the actor were broadcast by the American channel TMZ, this Saturday, October 30. Outside, by the side of a road, the American star is still traumatized by the tragedy, which occurred on October 21 and which claimed the life of Halyna Hutchins. As journalists tried to find out more, the film producer was irritated: “I’m not allowed to make any comments because an investigation is underway. We’re talking about a fatal injury! She was my friend!”, he said before adding that the director of photography “was his family”. Heartbreaking comments from the actor.

Still in front of the cameras, Alec Baldwin gave details of his friendship with the victim, Halyna Hutchins. “When I got on the set, I took her to dinner with Joel Souza, the director. We were a tight-knit group and then this horrible event happened.”, he continued. Still troubled, the 63-year-old actor confided while remaining vague concerning the information of the investigation. Hailey Bieber’s uncle has repeatedly said that he cannot answer questions as long as the investigation is ongoing. Although filming is sometimes dangerous, such a drama was almost impossible according to him: “Sometimes accidents happen on film sets, but nothing like that. There was a one in a trillion chance that would happen.”

Also present alongside her husband, Hilaria Baldwin did not appreciate the insistence of the cameras. Mobile in hand filming the scene, the mother cut the actor’s word several times, trying to protect him. “You will not have details”, she explained to reporters. But the 63-year-old actor finally intervened by asking the latter to kindly let him speak. The Hollywood star then opened up about her meeting with the victim’s family, including her 9-year-old son: “We are in constant contact with him because we are worried”, he added.

This terrible event obviously echoes the accident that occurred during the shooting of the film. The Crow, in 1993. Starring, Brandon Lee was accidentally killed by a supporting actor. Indeed, the character had to shoot him, with a weapon loaded with blank cartridges. In fact, the weapon used was mistakenly loaded with live ammunition. Bruce Lee’s son died of internal bleeding hours later in hospital. At the time, this drama had shaken the United States while strengthening security on film sets. No one would have believed that a similar accident could have happened almost 30 years later.
