An 8-year-old girl was discovered after spending her life locked in a room with her grandparents. Neighbors were unaware of the child’s presence.
She would have spent almost her entire life locked away. On September 23, German security forces freed an 8-year-old girl who had been living forever confined in a locked room in the house of his grandparents, located in the small town of Attendorn.
According to the first information from the investigation, opened by the Siegen public prosecutor’s office, the child never went to school and had no contact with an outside person. The neighbors were unaware of the existence of the child and his mother lived in the house. After her release, the little girl would even have said that she had never seen the forest and had never gotten into a car. A criminal investigation is currently underway against the child’s mother and grandparents to determine why they kept the child locked up for 8 years.

According to the investigators, the child lived only with his mother who had told social services that he had moved to Italy. But things didn’t turn out the way she thought. When the Italian authorities informed their German counterparts that the mother and daughter did not live in Italy, the youth protection decided to go to the grandparents’ house. It was then that they discovered the young victim.
For now, the girl’s mother and grandparents are using their right to silence and have still not given the reasons why the child was deprived of social contacts. The three adults are suspected of forcible confinement.
Fortunately, it seems that the child is doing well, no signs of physical abuse or malnutrition were found. The girl was placed in a foster home. A legal guardian will be appointed by the court.
