Five years after the death of her son, Sheila opened up about this heartbreaking event in Strongly Sunday, September 4th. A trauma from which she never recovered.

You can’t get over the loss of a child. This is what Sheila confided to Michel Drucker this Sunday, September 4, in Can’t wait for Sunday, on France 3. The 77-year-old singer looked back on her long successful career. 60 years of song, of fame but where she also experienced her share of tragedies. One, in particular, marked his life: the death of his son, Ludovic, following a cocaine overdose, at only 42 years old.

Born in 1975, Ludovic Chancel is the fruit of his marriage, two years earlier, with the singer Ringo, Guy Bayle of his real name. The latter is notably the interpreter of Gondolas in Venice in duet with Sheila. Unfortunately, their son had a sad fate and left behind his daughter, Tara Rose, now 20 years old. “Ludo had a life which is obviously not the one I would have chosen for him”confided Sheila to Michel Drucker. “Afterwards, his road is his road. She obviously traumatized mine a lot because he went to the other side.” Indeed, she has not always had a good relationship with her only son, on the contrary very conflicting. But as Sheila explains, the loss of a child is one of the hardest things to overcome: “And sadly parents who lose a child never get over it.”

A trauma that pushed her to creation

In memory of Ludovic, the singer wrote him a song, pacing horseon his latest album Come from elsewhere released last year. In this regard, she explained that she wanted to speak to all the mothers who have lost their child, who have experienced this heartbreak, with the aim of making them feel less alone: “I wanted to do this song because, first of all, I wanted to pay homage to her, I wanted to explain to her the internal heartbreak that a mom goes through. Because Sheila, who cares. I’m a mom, no matter how my name is. I’m not the only one. There are lots of mothers who lose their son. And I find that in relation to that I wanted through a little song that we share our little grief. “

The singer is, in fact, not the only one to have experienced the loss of a child. This was also the case for Joe Dassin, but also for Gerard Depardieu, who lost his 37-year-old son Guillaume.
