Shell: refinery conversion project in Germany


(CercleFinance.com) – Shell announced on Friday that it had made the final investment decision regarding the future of the hydrocracker at its Wesseling refinery, south of Cologne, which it plans to convert into a lubricants production unit. automobiles, such as engine oils.

The energy group explains that the reconversion of its industrial facilities will allow it to reduce its scope 1 and 2 emissions by around 620,000 tonnes per year, while it aims for carbon neutrality by 2050.

Although crude oil processing will cease at the Wesseling site before 2025, processing activities at the Godorf refinery, located between Bonn and Cologne, are expected to continue.
