Actor could become deacon after confirmation
Shia LaBeouf admitted to anger and alcohol problems. Can the church save him?

Shia LaBeouf is always up for a surprise. Now it is said that after all the scandals he dreams of a future as a deacon.
In recent years made actor Shia LaBeouf (37) made headlines with numerous scandals, now there is completely different news about him: The “Transformers” star was accepted into the Catholic Church and is now reportedly even considering becoming a deacon.
The Capuchin Franciscan brothers welcome him
LaBeouf “fully entered the Church last weekend through the sacrament of Confirmation,” they said Capuchin Franciscan Friars of the Province of Western America announced on Facebook on Tuesday. The post states: “The Capuchin Franciscan Friars are overjoyed to welcome him into the community and witness his deep commitment to his journey of faith.” Three photos were also published showing the actor in a blue jacket with priests and brothers.
After allegations of violence and alcohol problems, the actor now seems reformed: “Shia LaBeouf, known for his incredible talent and passion for the entertainment industry, has embarked on a profound spiritual journey that has led him to embrace the teachings of the Catholic Church,” wrote the group further. “His decision to fully join the Church is evidence of his sincere desire to grow in his relationship with God and live the values of the Gospel.”
From Hollywood star to Catholic deacon?
The Catholic News Agency (CNA) reported that LaBeouf’s confirmation took place on Sunday at the Old Mission Santa Inés Parish in Solvang, California. It also said that the Hollywood star wanted to become a deacon in the church “at some point in the future.” Capuchin friar Brother Alexander Rodriguez explained that LaBeouf has been thinking about it since he filmed his 2022 film “Padre Pio.” “He just spontaneously said, ‘I want to be a deacon,’ and he still feels that way.”
Shia LaBeouf revealed a few years ago that his interest in religion was growing. LaBeouf said back in 2014 the “Interview” magazinethat he immersed himself in Christianity while filming his war film “Heart of Steel”. “I’ve become a Christian man, and not in a shitty way – in a very real way.” In August 2022 he then spoke in one Interview with Catholic Bishop Robert Barron about how he developed an interest in the Church’s teachings while preparing for his role in “Padre Pio.” “If you like immersive experiences and you get the job of playing Pio, your life will change,” the 37-year-old said at the time about how the film role affected him.
“I abused myself and everyone around me for years”
Did she also help him to possibly leave his old self behind? LaBeouf was in a relationship with singer FKA twigs (35) from 2018 to 2019. She accused him of physical and emotional abuse in 2020 and sued him. Singer Sia (48), who also used to date him, then made similar allegations against the actor. An email to The New York Times in December 2020 revealed that LaBeouf did not completely deny the serious allegations and wanted to take responsibility. “I have no excuses for my alcoholism or my aggression, only attempts to explain it. I abused myself and everyone around me for years.” He hurt the people closest to him. “I’m ashamed of this story and I’m sorry to those I hurt.”
In early 2021, LaBeouf was reportedly in an addiction clinic for several weeks. Since then things have become quieter around him. In 2020, after a two-year separation, he reunited with actress Mia Goth (30), whom he married in Las Vegas in 2016. In March 2022 they became parents to daughter Isabel.
