A career change for Shia LaBeouf? The actor, who has just received the sacrament of Confirmation, would indeed seek to become a deacon.
According to a recent statement from the Capuchin Franciscans of the West America Province posted on Facebook, Shia LaBeouf recently received the sacrament of confirmation. The ceremony was celebrated at the Old Mission Santa Inés Parish in Solvang, California, as detailed by Catholic News Agency on Instagram. The actor’s Confirmation sponsor also noted that the actor plans to become a deacon at some point “in the future.”
“My friends, please join me and the Capuchin Brothers in continued prayer for Shia LaBeouf. Shia was fully welcomed into the Church through the sacrament of Confirmation on New Year’s Eve”, we can read in the message posted on the group’s Facebook page, accompanied by photos of the ceremony.
“Shia LaBeouf, known for his incredible talent and passion in the entertainment industry, embarked on a profound spiritual journey that led him to embrace the teachings of the Catholic Church”, wrote the Catholic News Agency group on Instagram. “His decision to fully enter the Church testifies to his sincere desire to grow in his relationship with God and to live the values of the Gospel.”
The last role of Shia Labeouf was in Abel Ferrara’s biopic Padre Pio (2022), in which he played the Italian Capuchin priest of the same name. It was also his first major role since he was accused of repeated physical, sexual and psychological violence by his ex-partner, singer-songwriter FKA Twigs. In a recent statement on Jon Bernthal’s “Real Ones” podcast, Shia Labeouf had admitted that he had “hurt” FKA Twigs, without giving further details.
After Padre Piounpublished in France, Shia Labeouf is also expected to appear in Francis Ford Coppola’s 2024 film Megalopolis.
