After the death of Shifty Shellshock, the manager of “Crazy Town” comments on the cause of the rapper’s death. The musician died of an overdose, which is classified as an accident.
It was a shock for the music world: On June 24, 2024, Shifty Shellshock died at the age of 49 in his house in Los Angeles. The cause of death of the “Crazy Town” frontman, whose real name was Seth Binzer, has now been revealed.
After years of drug addiction: Shifty Shellshock died of overdose
As Howie Hubberman, the band’s manager, confirmed to “People,” Shellshock died of an accidental overdose. “The cause of death was a combination of prescription medication and drugs bought on the street,” said Hubberman. He did not disclose which substances were involved in detail.
The manager took some of the blame for his protégé’s death on himself. “Shifty was a friend and really wanted to get a grip on himself – unfortunately no one had the exact means to do that, including me,” said Hubberman. He explained that Seth Binzer “was never able to [war]to deal with his addictions on a more successful level.” The manager also emphasized: “We all tried, but ultimately we all failed, otherwise Shifty would still be here.”
Forensic pathologist awaits toxicological report
However, there is no official confirmation of the cause of death from the authorities. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner is still waiting for a toxicology report to obtain further information. The evaluation can take over a month.
In 1992, Shifty Shellshock founded the predecessor band to “Crazy Town” with his best friend Epic Mazur, 53. In 2000, they landed a worldwide hit with “Butterfly”, which was to remain the group’s only number one. The singer had repeatedly made his drug problems public. He took part in the shows “Celebrity Rehab” and “Sober House”, which accompany celebrities during withdrawal.
