LONDON (Reuters) – Observations show Israeli security forces fired the bullets that killed Palestinian-American Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh last month while she was reporting in the West Bank, a door said on Friday. -speaker of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

“It is extremely shocking that the Israeli authorities have not conducted a criminal investigation” on this subject, said this spokeswoman during a press briefing in Geneva, where the UN body is based.

Israeli and Palestinian officials have blamed each other for the journalist’s death, which has reignited tensions in the region.

Israel has repeatedly denied that an IDF soldier could “deliberately target a journalist”.

The Israeli army’s preliminary investigation had concluded that it was not possible to unequivocally determine the source of the shots that cost Shireen Abu Akleh’s life.

This investigation raised two hypotheses, either that the journalist was hit by gunfire from Palestinian militants targeting Israeli military vehicles, or that she was hit by return fire from an Israeli soldier targeting a Palestinian gunman.
