A woman experiences a tremendous horror while shopping in the vegetable department of an Edeka branch in Berlin. As she is taking a shrink-wrapped broccoli from the shelf, she discovers a snake under the foil.
The animal had made itself comfortable between the trunk and the rose. The management of the branch immediately alerted the fire brigade. Six emergency services packed the broccoli and the snake a second time to be on the safe side – and handed the scary find to the police.
The officers finally brought the snake to the shelter. The species identification of the veterinarians there showed: It is a non-poisonous viper snake from Spain.
At 15 centimeters in length, it is still a young animal. Viper snakes can be up to 90 centimeters long. How the animal got into the packaging is still a mystery. For now it will stay in the exotic house of the Berlin animal shelter. (hah)
