We are already looking forward to many shoe trends for spring 2021 – but one trend cannot convince us. The plush slipper is back and we think: We can leave out the trend.
One trend is currently dominating the spring / summer catwalks 2021: the plush slippers. Labels such as Balenciaga, Marni, Molly Goddard or Pronounce seem to agree: it will be cozy in spring. They're comfortable – no question about it, but can plush slippers really be trendy? Although the year 2020 has shown that lounge wear and sweatpants are incredibly versatile and stylish, we can't really get used to the Komfi footwear and there is a reason for that.
Shoe trend 2021: That's why we say no to the plush hype
The Princetown slipper by Gucci with the side fur details already divided fashion opinions. And that is mainly due to the fact that not every trend is suitable for the respective season. So it is a contradiction in terms to combine warm winter materials such as fur or wool with summery shoe designs. We think: either we want to protect our feet from cold temperatures or offer them as much breathability as possible. Admittedly, the slippers from Balenciaga are not too wintry and could almost go through for the summer, but are more like house slippers than street style must-haves.
Plush slippers: Marni amazes with a strange design
The Italian fashion label Marni is known for its avant-garde designs and play of shapes and colors. Creative director Francesco Risso is also open to experiments with different materials, which can be seen in the spring / summer collection 2021.
Sturdy leather buckles meet platform heels and XXL plush. The futuristic approach of the shoes is lost in the many details and these make the models' feet look chunky. This spring and summer we are foregoing fur shoes and prefer to enjoy filigree strappy sandals and thong heels.
