Shooting in Paris: a 16-year-old minor indicted and imprisoned


One person was killed and four others injured in a shooting in the eleventh arrondissement of the capital, Monday, July 18.

A 16-year-old minor, suspected of being one of the perpetrators of the shooting which left one dead and four injured in Paris on Monday evening July 18, was indicted and imprisoned, a judicial source said on Saturday.

After nearly four days in police custody, the teenager was indicted on Friday evening for “murder in an organized gang, attempted murder in an organized gang, acquisition and possession without authorization of category A weapons and B in a meeting, and association of criminals with a view to crimes and misdemeanors”, specified the judicial source. He was placed in pre-trial detention, in accordance with the requisitions of the prosecution.

According to a source close to the investigation, he is known to the courts. Injured during the incident by witnesses who held him down while waiting for the police to arrive, he was hospitalized, she said. His accomplice was still at large on Saturday, the source added.

Monday around 9:30 p.m., a car stopped in front of a café on rue Popincourt, in the 11th arrondissement of the capital. Two individuals got out and aimed with firearms at two men seated on the terrace.

One of the two men, aged 38, was killed and four people were injured but not by bullets, according to the first elements collected by the police headquarters.

“We saw a car coming, they came out with a weapon – I would have said a submachine gun or a Kalashnikov – they fired and they left”had testified to AFP Antoine, owner of a nearby restaurant. “We heard gunshots and then we saw a guy who got into the car (…) rushed off. And then we heard screams.”had told AFP Martin and Lucas who were having a drink on the terrace.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the thesis of the settlement of scores is preferred. The investigations are entrusted to the criminal brigade and the 2nd judicial police district.

The town hall of the 11th arrondissement of Paris, a district marked by the attacks of January and November 2015, opened a medico-psychological emergency cell on Tuesday for witnesses to the shooting.
