Short circuit – In Kaprun, the substation caught fire during the night

A switchgear caught fire, probably due to a short circuit. That was the trigger for a fire brigade operation in the night from Friday to Saturday in Kaprun.

A police patrol ordered by the state control center noticed heavy smoke developing in the area of the Kaprun transformer station. It was 12:39 a.m. A little later, the company fire brigade started extinguishing the fire with the support of the Kaprun volunteer fire brigade, and a respiratory protection team was also deployed. At 1:45 a.m. the fire could be started. The extent of the damage is unclear, no one was injured. The reason may have been a short circuit in the control center. Fire investigators rule out third-party fault “with a probability bordering on certainty”.
