Noè Ponti qualified very confidently for the final over 100 m butterfly. In the preliminary heat, the 21-year-old swam by far the best time of all participants in 48.81 seconds. The Olympic bronze medalist from Gambarogno improved his own Swiss record set in October at the World Cup in Berlin by more than half a second. He is only the 6th swimmer to go under 49 seconds over that distance.
3rd medal on Sunday?
In the semi-finals, Ponti, the winner of his series, was exactly as fast as defending champion Matteo Rivolta (ITA) with 49.07 seconds; only the South African Chad le Clos (48.98) – the world champion in the 200 m butterfly – was faster.
With such times, Ponti is also one of the medal contenders for the final on Sunday morning (09:42 Swiss time). Previously, he had already won silver in the 50m and bronze in the 200m butterfly at the title fights in Australia.
Mamié clearly past the final
Lisa Mamié missed the semi-finals relatively clearly as 24th over 50 m breaststroke. With a time of 30.84, the 24-year-old from Zurich was a good half a second short of progress.
