The Minister of Health and Prevention, François Braun, was the guest of Europe morning this Friday. At the microphone of Dimitri Pavlenko, he returned to the resolution of the shortage of amoxicillin, an essential drug in winter, and the creation of a “white plan” to better manage drugs.

Pharmacies with half-empty shelves and patients struggling to treat themselves properly. The shortage of amoxicillin that France is facing this winter is particularly hampering health professionals, who are trying to find alternative solutions. Thus, dozens of pharmacies have started to manufacture the antibiotic themselves, to meet demand.

A list of essential medicines

But the shortage is about to be resolved, said Friday morning at the microphone of Europe 1 the Minister of Health and Prevention François Braun. According to information from Europe 1, nearly a million doses of amoxicillin should arrive in pharmacies within two weeks. “We will thus have a month of additional stock of amoxicillin. And we have recovered stocks of paracetamol. So, we will come out of this period of crisis in the next two weeks”, explains in Europe matin the Minister of Health.

But the latter does not want “never again” to experience such a situation. So, François Braun wants to draw up a list of essential medicines. “I asked for it for the month of June,” he says. “In the United States, this list is about 170 drugs. (…) The goal is to identify all the places where there may be problems and put actions to anticipate them”, continues the former president of SAMU.

A “drug bench plan”

The list will be produced jointly “between manufacturers and the Ministries of Health and Industry”. Because François Braun wants to anticipate winter, “even if it means making preliminary stocks”, stressing that it is difficult to justify not anticipating a season that arrives every year.

Finally, to avoid a new shortage of antibiotics, the ministry will set up a “white drug plan”. “Like that, as soon as we have a crisis, we have on the table the list of all the immediate actions” to put in place, concludes François Braun.
