In a new documentary, Princess Anne reveals that Queen Elizabeth didn’t want to make a fuss about where she died.

Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) was concerned that organizing her funeral would cause problems if she died in Balmoral, Scotland. Princess Anne (73) revealed this in a new documentary.

According to the Daily Mail, the princess says, who was extremely close to the late queen throughout her life, said in the film: “I think there was a moment when she felt that it would be more difficult if she died at Balmoral.” The family would have tried to convince her not to make the decision dependent on that. “I hope that in the end she felt it was right, because I think we have it,” hopes her daughter.

The Queen had a great connection to the Scottish Highlands. She is said to have been happiest at Balmoral, Princess Eugenie (33) revealed in the TV documentary “Our Queen at Ninety” in 2016. Despite physical difficulties and her concerns about being able to create circumstances, the Queen made her way from Windsor Castle to Balmoral in July 2022. She spent the last weeks there until her death on September 8th at the age of 96.

Princess Anne: “Pure coincidence” that she was there when her mother died

In the interview, she described the fact that Princess Anne was with her mother at the time of death as “pure coincidence.” Accordingly, she was on the way back after a few days on the west coast and only made a stopover at the Scottish castle.

In the documentary, Princess Anne also talks about the Queen’s funeral at St. George’s Church in Windsor. “I felt a sense of relief in a strange way,” she explained. “That’s it for now. The responsibility is passed on.”

The documentary “Charles III: The Coronation Year” shows previously unreleased behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with high-ranking members of the royal family and their staff. It will air on BBC One on Boxing Day.
