It takes more than booster vaccinations to break the fourth corona wave, says SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach and therefore calls for more discipline and stricter controls in everyday life. The politician also currently considers larger events such as Christmas parties or carnivals to be inappropriate.

The SPD health politician Karl Lauterbach advises against larger Christmas and Carnival celebrations in view of the worsening Corona situation. “This will probably be the last big wave of the pandemic, but it can still cost a lot of lives. It is therefore important that people are more cautious,” said Lauterbach of the “Rheinische Post”. “This includes avoiding company Christmas parties indoors as far as possible, celebrating Christmas in smaller groups and not going to the carnival.”

It is good that the booster vaccinations are initially reserved primarily for the most vulnerable groups, he said. But it will take more to break the fourth wave. Lauterbach considers it unrealistic that there could be another shutdown of public life. But you have to rely more on the 2G rule, i.e. restrict access to certain areas to those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered.

“This regulation should ideally take effect in all areas that are not part of daily needs, such as grocery stores or drugstores,” said Lauterbach. In addition, much stricter controls are needed. With a view to the schools, Lauterbach called on the pupils to take voluntary protective measures. “I think it is medically necessary that children wear their masks in class, even if countries have abolished the obligation, which I think is a mistake,” he said.
