Is insuring a seasonal rental compulsory?

For the owner, the answer is no because the multi-risk home insurance contract is not compulsory in France, unlike car insurance, for example. Yet he is strongly recommended to protect yourself. You can even opt for a contract adapted to your rental practices.

Airbnb, Gtes de France: what insurance?

Airbnb offers the AirCover system which includes civil liability and a damage guarantee of up to 1 million dollars (942,250 euros as of June 27) if the rental accommodation is damaged by a traveler during a stay booked on Airbnb. This program does not replace classic home insurance, which is still recommended. Tenant side, protection and insurance within the accommodation is included in the price paid when booking.

For its part, Gites de France demands civil liability from its renters in the event of fire, water damage or neighborhood problems.

What to do in case of disaster?

In the event of an accident, fire or water damage during his stay, the tenant must notify the owner of the property and his insurer as soon as possible by registered letter.
