Sidaction has been the target of a cyberattack exposing donors since January 2023 to a potential risk of data theft.

On February 28, 2024, the association fighting AIDS, Sidaction, was hit by a cyberattack against the hosting system of one of its service providers. In a press release, it indicates that this attack results in “ a possible risk of disclosure of personal data of certain donors “.

The IBANs concerned, the donors informed

In a press release published on its X.com account (formerly Twitter), the association aims to be as reassuring as possible by indicating that “ Less than 20% of people who have donated since January 2023 could be affected “.

More specifically, the data exposed concerns personal information of donors such as surnames, first names, telephone numbers, postal addresses and donation amounts. For almost 3% of affected data, banking information (IBAN and BIC) is also at risk.

Sidaction also informed the people concerned individually, as well as the CNIL which posted a record number of sanctions in 2023, and invited its donors to remain vigilant in the face of any type of approach or proposal that could appear fraudulent.

Aware of the consequences that may result from this event, we are doing everything we can to limit its effects and have already informed all those concerned individually. The CNIL was also notified », declares the association, before specifying that it is always possible to make a donation online in complete security.
