Siemens: a railway contract won in the USA

(CercleFinance.com) – Siemens announced on Thursday that it had won a contract in the United States for the production of 50 locomotives for an amount of some two billion dollars.

The German group indicates that its subsidiary Siemens Mobility will supply Amtrak with 50 ALC-42 locomotives, in addition to the 75 already ordered in 2018, to replace aging rolling stock dating from the 1990s.

These locomotives, which Siemens will also maintain and service, can reach a speed of more than 200 km/h while consuming less energy and emitting less polluting particles.

They must start rolling by the end of 2029.

This equipment must be manufactured within the Siemens Mobility site based in Sacramento.
