Siemens announces the sale of its “post and parcels” division to the Körber group for 1.15 billion euros

With this sale, Siemens wants to continue its strategy of simplifying its activity.

The German industrial group Siemens announced on Wednesday the sale for 1.15 billion euros of the “post and parcel” division to its compatriot Körber, to continue its strategy of simplifying its activity.

Specializing in machines for unloading, transporting, sorting, coding parcels and preparing letters for delivery, the division will join Körber’s supply chain activities. This is a “new strategic and long-term owner” for “post and parcels”which should become a “strong part of the activity” of Körber, according to a press release from Siemens. The sale should be completed “during this year” subject to the authorization of the competition authorities, specifies Siemens.

500 million euros in turnover

The division employs some 1,200 people and generates sales of nearly 500 million euros. The other part of the conglomerate’s “Siemens Logistics” subsidiary, intended for airport logistics and offering, for example, baggage transport systems, is not affected by the sale.

This transaction is the latest sale of the industrial giant which plans to become a technology company to take advantage of the digital revolution in the manufacturing industry. In particular, Siemens listed the medical equipment subsidiary Siemens Healthineers on the stock market in 2018, then Siemens Energy, which notably includes wind turbines.
