Siemens: automatic and sustainable trains thanks to AI

(CercleFinance.com) – Accompanied by 16 partners, Siemens announces the launch of the ‘safe.trAIn’ project, an initiative subsidized to the tune of 23 ME by the German government and which aims to lay the foundations for the safe use of artificial intelligence (AI) for driverless operation of rail vehicles.

“Solutions to meet the demands of this highly regulated and standardized environment have the potential to significantly improve the efficiency and sustainability of regional rail transport,” Siemens said.

Germany also considers that it is necessary to make passenger rail offers more attractive in order to be able to achieve its environmental objectives, namely a reduction of 40 to 42% of its CO2 emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. ,

As the construction of new railway lines is extremely time-consuming and very costly, the government is convinced that digitizing and automating the operation of trains within the existing railway network is ‘a key lever’ to quickly achieve positive results and that ‘as such, artificial intelligence offers ‘major potential in this field.’
