How the pricing table works
Sigma continues to conquer the hybrid market. APS-C boxes, like those with 24×36 sensor, are not forgotten. On June 1, 2022, the Japanese firm announced that it was launching the 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary, a very wide-angle and bright zoom. It will be available for Sony’s 35mm sensor bodies in E-mount and L-mount for cameras from Leica, Panasonic and Sigma.
A sober and compact zoom
It is a very sober optic, relatively compact with its 10 cm long, 7.7 cm in diameter and 450 g. The zoom is more internal. Apart from the focus and zoom ring, it has no other physical controls.
A worked autofocus
Regarding the optical formula, the zoom uses 16 elements divided into 11 groups, including four aspherical lenses. The diaphragm has nine circular blades, the minimum focusing distance being established at 25 cm. According to Sigma, the development has been particularly careful to offer autofocus that is both fast and silent.
Price and availability
The 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary zoom will be available from June 17, 2022 at a price of €899. In this sector, it will compete directly, at least for the E-mount, with the 17-28mm F/2.8 Di III RXD from Tamron, which had seduced us in its time.
