Sigma expands its Contemporary range with no less than 3 new lenses for mirrorless 24×36 and APS-C

At the start of spring, Sigma is expanding its Contemporary range dedicated to “Premium Compact Fixed Focals” with 3 new pebbles ranging from wide-angle to classic 50 mm, enough to equip photographers before the arrival of fine weather.

Two lenses for 24×36 hybrids

Dedicated to fixed focal lengths, the Contemporary series is enriched with two new pebbles for L-mount and Sony E-mount full-frame cameras. The newly announced Sigma 17mm F4 DG DN and Sigma 50mm F2 DG DN want to offer photographers a versatility.

The Sigma 17mm F4 DG DN relies on its compact format and reduced weight of 225 grams to appeal to photographers looking for mobility. In addition, its reduced focusing distance, at 12 cm, gives it great versatility for all types of subjects. Its serious aluminum construction goes hand in hand with an optical formula with 9 lenses, divided into 8 groups (including 2 SLD glasses and 3 aspherical glasses). Only its low F4 aperture could penalize it for photographers who wanted to take photos in low light or obtain the smallest possible depth of field.

From the side, the Sigma 50mm F2 DG DN Contemporary is more classic, with a standard focal length. It benefits from the same neat treatment with its metal construction but features 11 lenses divided into 9 groups. We are thus entitled to 1 SLD lens and 3 aspherical lenses to reduce optical defects.

A new pebbles for APS-C hybrid

The latest addition to the range, the Sigma 23mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary is the only lens specifically designed for APS-C sensor cameras. In addition, it is available in a third version for Fujifilm X-mount cameras, in addition to L and Sony E mounts.

With its 23mm focal length equivalent to a 35mm on APS-C, this Sigma lens offers users of small sensor cameras a lens that is both versatile and very bright. Its F1.4 aperture will particularly appeal to those who want a bright pebble to photograph in all circumstances. It uses the aluminum construction and has a complex optical formula with 13 lenses divided into 10 groups including 3 SLD glasses and 2 aspherical glasses. It comes to be inserted within a range already composed of a 16 mm, a 30 mm and a 56 mm with F1.4 aperture and completes the manufacturer’s offer for APS-C cameras.
