If you see the sign, you should assume the road is slippery, even if there is no snow or ice visible. Then drive carefully and reduce your speed. Also, try to avoid sudden braking.
If there is a speed limit sign on the side of the road, you must stick to it – regardless of whether there is also a snowflake or not, explains the ADAC.
In addition, according to a ruling by the Hamm Higher Regional Court, the speed limit applies all year round and not as a condition, such as with the additional sign “when wet”.
Basically, the snowflake symbol is an explanation for the speed limit. The snowflake is another indication of why it can be dangerous at this point,” points out the ADAC.
Even if it doesn’t seem like it, drops in temperature can occur, especially on bridges or in forest areas, even in summer. If there is a cold wind, it can quickly become freezing wet.
It is therefore important that you stick to the speed limit even in good weather and drive carefully on the affected roads.
