Signs for Ukraine – Swiss anti-war rallies passed peacefully – News

  • Several hundred people demonstrated in Zurich and Geneva for an end to the war in Ukraine.

Around 300 people – according to the organizers as many as 500 participants – took part in a demonstration in Zurich entitled “End the war – for peace and international friendship!” took part. Among other things, a “no to arms deliveries” and “an end to the sanctions against Russia” were demanded.

Behind the rally, which was attended by around 300 people, was the alliance “Stop War”, which includes various personalities and organizations, such as the Labor Party (PdA), the Swiss Peace Movement (SFB), the Animal Rights Group Zurich (TRGZH ) and the singer-songwriter Pippo Pollina.

“Fight imperialism, the root of the war”, it said in the call for the rally “against fascism and nationalism” and “no further rapprochement by Switzerland to NATO”, which is an “imperialist war alliance”.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine was also condemned. The “No War” alliance, which includes various personalities and organizations, was behind the rally.

At almost the same time, Russians gathered elsewhere in Zurich against the war. They condemned the “criminal war” and campaigned for “peace and victory for Ukraine” and “freedom for Russia”.

Tough pace required against Russia

Around 200 people took part in a solidarity march for Ukraine in Geneva in the afternoon. Switzerland and the Geneva authorities were urged to take a tougher stance against Russia.

Under the slogan “Stop the war, support Ukraine”, the organizers, the Geneva Committee Ukraine Switzerland, called on the federal and cantonal authorities to do everything possible to support Ukraine in the war against Russia.

These included freezing the assets of Russian oligarchs and increasing support for Ukrainian refugees in Switzerland, especially in finding housing and work.
