The “Alien” saga made her famous, now Sigourney Weaver could be one of the “Star Wars” heroines.

US actress Sigourney Weaver (74) is said to be in talks for a role in “The Mandalorian & Grogu”, the first “Star Wars” film since 2019. This is reported by the industry magazine “The Hollywood Reporter”. Jon Favreau (57), the creator of the series “The Mandalorian”, is directing the film, which is supposed to be shot this year. Favreau, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy (70) and screenwriter Dave Filoni (49) will produce the film. “The Mandalorian & Grogu” is scheduled to be released in theaters in May 2026.

The “Mandalorian” series started on the Disney+ streaming service in November 2019 and was well received by fans and critics. In addition to main actor Pedro Pascal (49), who plays the role of Din Djarin aka the Mandalorian, the audience also celebrated his little green protégé Grogu, who became known as Baby Yoda. The third season of the series premiered last year. There are also already “The Mandalorian” spin-offs: “The Book of Boba Fett” was released in 2021, the first season of “Ahsoka” in 2023.

It is not known what role Sigourney Weaver could play in the new “Star Wars” film “The Mandalorian & Grogu”. The actress from New York celebrated her breakthrough with the “Alien” films, which started in 1979 with the sci-fi horror classic by Ridley Scott (86). Sigourney Weaver appeared in a total of four films in the “Alien” franchise and has since been considered one of the first female action stars. She was also in the “Ghostbusters” and “Avatar” series. The 74-year-old has also been nominated for an Oscar three times: in 1987 as best actress for “Aliens: The Return”, in 1989 as best actress for “Gorillas in the Mist” and in 1989 as best supporting actress for “The Weapons of Women”.
