Silent appearance – a bang in Innsbruck: Benko in the courtroom

The real estate juggler René Benko has recently become extremely rare as a result of his fatal company bankruptcy. But now he has unexpectedly appeared in court in Innsbruck. It’s about his insolvency as an entrepreneur – of the around 2 billion euros in claims, 47 million were recognized.

The appointment was important for him because he used it as an excuse for his absence from the investigative committee on Wednesday. This is Benko’s first public appearance since the real estate group’s financial difficulties and the bankruptcies of numerous Signa companies. He didn’t have to appear in person. The entrepreneur, wearing a suit and tie, remained silent in front of the numerous journalists, photographers and camera teams present . He didn’t want to answer questions, but rushed into the courtroom accompanied by his lawyer. By law, Benko did not actually have to appear in person at the meeting in his hometown. Creditors had claims in the hundreds of millions against the 46-year-old. At the meeting, the liquidator will, among other things, announce how much of it is recognized and how much is disputed. The bankruptcy proceedings relate to the consulting company Benkos and all of its private assets, including those abroad. A lot of money is involved. Court spokeswoman Birgit Fink emphasized that an “initial inventory” would be carried out at the hearing. That means: How many assets and liabilities or liabilities are there? How many demands exist and how much of them are recognized? 25 to 30 creditors have filed claims against the fallen Signa founder and alleged multi-billionaire. The amounts are said to range from relatively small amounts to those amounting to considerable millions. In any case, it was announced that the court would like to communicate, among other things, the size of the recognized claims by broadcast on Wednesday.
