Silent Hill 2: Bloober Team reassures players, no question of being off topic, Konami chose it voluntarily

After months of rumours, Konami made official the remake of Silent Hill 2 last Octoberalong with other future titles from its franchise of survival horror. This modernized version of the cult psychological horror game is developed by Bloober Teama Polish studio known for Layers of Fear, Observe, Blair Witch or more recently The Medium.

Of the survival horror friendly, but far from being unmistakable, the studio is often singled out for its lack of gameplay really engaging and its jump scares a little easy. Suffice to say that with the remake of Silent Hill 2 Between hands, fans of the title of Konami fingers crossed that Bloober Team don’t miss the mark and manages to recreate this very special atmosphere, between horror and melancholy, by giving it a facelift in terms of graphics and gameplay.

Waiting to get our hands on this new Silent Hill 2we have to be content with the statements of the studio, and this time it was marketing director Anna Jasińska who spoke at DeadXP to reassure players:

Long-time fans shouldn’t worry that we “don’t understand the subject matter” while creating the title. We’re sticking faithfully to the traditional story canon while redoing the gameplay and updating the graphics from the ground up. These are the reasons Konami gave us the remake in the first place.

Silent Hill 2 is a classic that shaped the way our studio works with psychological horrors. The idea of working on this project had been with us for many years.

As for apprehension, yes, the pressure is on as we’re dealing with one of the best psychological horror games ever made. We want to stay close to the original, and we’ll put it in the spotlight for years to come.

We stay true to the original title. Nevertheless, we are applying adjustments to some places, where things need to be modernized due to the passage of time.

If there was indeed a defect in Silent Hill 2 even back then it was his gameplay slow and rigid (which somehow contributed to the horror). Now all we have to do is wait until the remake is released to find out if Bloober Team managed to rejuvenate this cult title. As a reminder, Masahiro Ito (creative director) and Akira Yamaoka (composer) participated in the development, and just recently, producer Maciej Głomb told GamingBolt that Konami had approached several studios for this project, proof that he has confidence in Bloober Team :

To my knowledge, Konami indeed discussed with other studios the idea of remaking Silent Hill 2. In my opinion, rightly so, because such a game should be supported by the most passionate developers, no other . The fact that they chose us was both a great distinction and a huge motivational boost. We have people who are very familiar with the original game and I think Konami noticed that pretty quickly.

As you can imagine, when they approached us with this offer, we hesitated for a moment, given the weight of responsibility that comes with it. At the same time, we couldn’t imagine anyone else doing the remake besides us; we were convinced that we would do everything in our power to give him the treatment he deserved. In hindsight, it was the right thing to do.

Silent Hill 2 is expected on a date yet unknown, on PC and PlayStation 5. You can find the two films adapted from the franchise in Blu-ray box set at €14.99 on Amazon.
