German squadron storms to surprise medals

The German cross-country skiers surprisingly win silver in the relay. The team even leads for a long time, but has to admit defeat to Russia in the final round. It is the first medal at the Olympic Winter Games in cross-country skiing since 2014.

The German cross-country skiers surprisingly won silver in the relay at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing and thus ensured the DSV’s first cross-country medal at a major event in eight years. After 4×5 kilometers, Katherine Sauerbrey, Katharina Hennig, Victoria Carl and Sofie Krehl were only beaten by the Russian Olympic Committee team.

Until the last change, the quartet was still in the lead and on course for gold. Bronze went to Sweden.

Since bronze in Sochi in 2014 by the women’s relay around today’s biathlon Olympic champion Denise Herrmann, no German cross-country skier has stood on the podium at the Olympic Games or World Championships.
