Simon Cowell: Music producer barely escapes the wheelchair

That was apparently extremely close: Music producer Simon Cowell is said to have escaped paraplegia in an e-bike fall.

Simon Cowell (60) was obviously extremely lucky when he fell on his e-bike: As the British tabloid "The Sun" reports, the British music producer barely missed paraplegia. Over the weekend, America's Got Talent inventor had six hours of surgery on his broken back. Apparently he is spared a wheelchair afterwards. The spinal cord was not damaged, but only just barely: the break is said to have stopped a centimeter in front of it.

Cowell previously fell while e-biking in his own garden in Malibu, his adopted home in the United States. He wanted to try out his new bike there. He himself posted about the incident: "Good advice: If you buy an e-bike, read the operating instructions before the first ride. I broke part of my back."

Thank you to the clinic staff

Cowell also thanked the hospital staff: "A big thank you to all the nurses and doctors." These are some of the nicest people he has ever met. One of his spokesmen previously confirmed the accident in which his family was present. The first reaction was that Cowell was fine and that he was being watched.

Born in London, Simon Cowell is also the inventor and jury member of the British and US talent shows "Britain's Got Talent", "The X Factor", "America's Got Talent" and "The X Factor USA". During the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, he spends most of his time with his partner Lauren Silverman, 43, their six-year-old son Eric, and Silverman's 14-year-old son Adam from a previous relationship.
