The portrait of a historical figure
The first images of Simone, the journey of the century, the film directed by Olivier Dahan dedicated to Simone Veil, have just been revealed. In the trailer for the feature film expected on October 12 at the cinema, we discover certain key scenes of her destiny, recreated for the occasion: her historic election as the first woman President of the European Parliament, her poignant return to Auschwitz in 2004 or even her meeting disrupted by far-right activists, during which she launched a resounding: “You don’t scare me, I’ve survived worse than you!”
Conceived as an impressionist portrait of the woman who was Simone Veil, the film ensures that everyone can understand how the past forged the battles of this icon of the feminist and humanist struggle. Five years after his death, the objective is also to offer the younger generations a testimony of his commitment, in order to perpetuate his memory and his ideas. The feature film highlights how decisive his actions were, and still are today for each and every one of us.
An exceptional cast
Embodied on screen at the time by Rebecca Marder (Tastes and Colors, A Young Girl Who is Well) and Elsa Zylberstein (Love is Better Than Life, Everything Smiles at Us), the one who brought so many struggles is shown here from a more intimate angle, as a couple or as a family.
We also find Mathieu Spinosi (Les Souvenirs) and Olivier Gourmet (The exercise of the State) in the role of Antoine Veil, her husband, as well as the binomial Esther Valding (Tomorrow belongs to us) and Sylvie Testud (Stupor and tremors ) in the skin of Marceline, her best friend met in the death camps. And it is Elodie Bouchez and Judith Chemla who respectively lend their features to her mother Yvonne Jacob, and to her sister Milou.
