A new expansion for The Sims 4 will be released in 10 days. Along with the DLC, however, there is also an update for the base game. New is a setting option in the character creation, with which you can specify the sexual orientation of your Sims.

The Sims 4: New Update expands character creation
The High School Years Expansion Pack for The Sims 4 focuses on the Sims’ teenage years. Even if you don’t buy the expansion, you can choose during character creation in the future, who your Sims are sexually attracted to. You can also change your choice later in the game by interacting with a mirror or wardrobe. The whole thing works with a checklist with which you can answer three questions:
- Who is the Sim romantically attracted to?
- Can the Sim’s sexual orientation change over the course of the game?
- Who can the Sim start a dalliance with?
New The Sims feature to be expanded in the future
The new feature is explained in more detail on The Sims 4 official website. Developer SimGuruJessica also makes it clear there that the feature to be further developed in the future. This mainly affects the representation of non-binary Sims. The problem here is the technical limitations of The Sims 4, which currently only allow two genders. While much progress has been made with gender design, pronoun selection and now sexual orientation, there is still work to be done.

This is how the current default sim feels
If you don’t provide any information about your sexual orientation at all, a default selection will be made, which also currently applies to all Sims. As such, they are not specifically attracted to just one gender and their attraction may change over the course of gameplay. Even when it comes to romp, they don’t have any preset restrictions. The High School Years Expansion Pack for The Sims 4 will be released on July 28, 2022. The update about the sexual orientation of the Sims will then also be unlocked for all owners of the base game.
