Sims 4: The Wedding Game Pack will also be available in Russia

After some decision changes, EA today revealed that the “Wedding” pack of Sims 4 would finally be available… everywhere in the world! But why is it necessary to specify it? Because the promotion around the pack highlights a homosexual couple getting married. Its reception was therefore rather difficult in Russia in particular, a country which unfortunately condemns homosexuality. Back on this controversy which is finally resolved well.

Cameron and Dominica

Cam and Dom are the two main protagonists of the trailer for this famous “Marriage” pack of The Sims 4. The two characters form a fabulous couple that we see getting married and growing old together in the trailer that you can find above.

However, as the pack’s worldwide release approached, EA had some doubts about its reception in Russia. Indeed, the company was afraid that the country’s government would condemn its launch and thus oppose the passionate story of Cam and Dom.

She has since spoken out about it. It was February 9, 2022 last.

“The ability to tell stories (any story) is central to what we do in The Sims. Not telling Cam and Dom’s story would have compromised the values we hold dear. We care about you offering the freedom to be who you are, to love who you love and to tell the stories you want to tell. What does this mean for you, our players? We are committed to delivering on this commitment by implementing forward and celebrating stories like Dom and Cam’s, and so we’ve decided to forgo the release of ‘Marriage’ where our story should have been changed due to federal laws. Unfortunately, that means members of the The Sims in Russia community will not be able to purchase this game pack”.

This decision was not unanimous among the Sims 4 community. Many players did not support EA’s choice, blaming the company for failing to fight the Russian government’s homosexuality laws. Several content creators and influencers had even gone so far as to threaten to boycott the game’s “Marriage” expansion. A misunderstanding between the community and EA, for whom the cancellation of the pack’s release in Russia was a way of protecting its story.

Change of decision

On February 16, a few days after Valentine’s Day, EA finally decided to celebrate love all over the world by releasing the “Wedding” pack in Russia, and especially in a completely unchanged version!

“We listened to the wave of emotions and feedback from our community, including support for our decision and concern for other community members. It is equally important for us to uphold our values, including fighting against homophobia than to share stories like this with those who want and need them most.
With that in mind, we re-evaluated our options and realized we could do more than we initially thought. So we’re going to make The Sims 4 “Marriage” game pack available for our community in Russia, unmodified and unchanged, along with Dom and Cam.”
