Since 2020 – Music students have been waiting for a rehearsal hall for years

In 2020, the city of Klagenfurt bought an area for the Gustav Mahler Music School. The hall is still empty.

Four years ago, the city purchased the premises of the former Bäck bookbindery on Purtscherstrasse for the Gustav Mahler Music School. The largest music school in Carinthia does not have a rehearsal hall. But the school is still waiting for that.Acoustic problems and a lack of equipmentThe rooms will be used for a symphony orchestra, two children’s string orchestras, two wind orchestras, two children’s and youth choirs, a guitar orchestra, the Carinthian Singing Academy and several ensembles in the fields of classical music, folk music, jazz, rock and pop needed. The new hall is still empty because it is extremely reverberant. Acoustic adjustments, equipment with music stands, sound technology and instruments would be necessary. The costs for this are between 60,000 and 100,000 euros. “The wish will be fulfilled,” says Mayor Christian Scheider after consultation with his deputy Philipp Liesnig. “The Gustav Painter School is the pride of Klagenfurt.” 50 teachers and 1,600 students would be grateful for that.
