Since October 12th missing – tragic end of search: man (81) recovered dead

The sad end to a large-scale search in Styria: an 81-year-old, who did not come home after a hike on October 12 and had been searched extensively since, could only be found dead on Thursday at 1,100 meters above sea level in a steep gully on the Trisselwand be found. He is likely to have crashed around 60 meters, third-party debt can be ruled out.

On October 12th around 2:30 p.m., the 81-year-old man from Upper Styria from the Liezen district left the house. According to his wife, he wanted to do a little hike. However, he did not return from this until evening, whereupon his wife filed a notice of absence. The search began, but initially only the pensioner’s car could be found in a parking lot in the Tressensattel area (Grundlsee municipality). Around 20 rescue workers from the Ausseerland mountain rescue team and a police helicopter from Salzburg searched for the 81-year-old until after midnight – unfortunately without success. Several searches, now unfortunately a sad certainty. Mountain rescuers from Ausseerland, Bad Mitterndorf, Tauplitz and Stainach, the avalanche and search dog team, two helicopters from the police (FEST Graz) and the armed forces as well as a police drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera were deployed in the rough terrain. Numerous fire brigades in the Ausseerland also offered support. Dogs were also used to search, but the 81-year-old disappeared. On Thursday all forces were again combined to look for him. And the fear turned into a sad certainty. Unfortunately, a specially trained dog was only able to find the body. The man is believed to have fallen 60 meters into a steep gully.
