Since the outbreak of war
Interest in service with the German Armed Forces is growing

After the Russian attack on Ukraine, the Bundeswehr became the focus of attention. You get more money – and possibly more staff. In any case, more people can currently imagine serving with a weapon.

Since the start of the Russian war against Ukraine, interest in serving in the Bundeswehr in Germany has grown. “Since the outbreak of the war, we have registered an increased number of interested parties who contact us via the contact form on the Bundeswehr’s website or via our career hotline,” a spokeswoman for the Federal Ministry of Defense told the Funke newspapers media group with.

Accordingly, the initial consultation appointments for career advice would also have increased. “We are also seeing an increase in inquiries from reservists.” The spokeswoman did not give exact figures. However, she emphasized that “statements on a fundamentally changed volume of inquiries” could not yet be made. It is also not yet possible to assess the impact on the number of applications, since the period since the beginning of the war in Ukraine is too short for “reliable conclusions to be drawn about recruiting personnel for the Bundeswehr”.

Scholz wants to have a say in distribution

Chancellor Olaf Scholz apparently makes the distribution of the 100 billion euros from the Bundeswehr investment package a top priority. As the “Bild am Sonntag” reports, Scholz will meet in person with Inspector General Eberhard Zorn on Monday. He wants to consult with the highest-ranking soldier about which equipment projects the billions should go into. Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht is also taking part in the meeting.

In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Scholz had announced that he would make 100 billion euros available for modernizing the Bundeswehr. These funds are to be secured as a special fund in the Basic Law.
