Sing saved in extremis – more drama is not possible: Lucerne has to go to the barrage despite the win – sport

  • FC Luzern defeated Zürich 3-2 away in the last round of the Super League.
  • Because Sion drew against Servette at home (3: 3), the central Swiss have to go to the barrage.
  • Lucerne is 0: 2 behind in Zurich, Sion secures the league in extremis.

It was a roller coaster ride of emotions that the club bosses, players and supporters of FC Luzern and FC Sion had to go through in the 36th and final Super League round. When the whistle kicked off at 4:30 p.m., it was clear: If Lucerne wanted to avoid going to the barrage, it had to win at champions FCZ and Sion had to lose at home to Servette.

Half an hour later, at 5:00 p.m., it looked pitch black for the people of Lucerne. Mario Frick’s team was 2-0 down in the Letzigrund, while Sion led 1-0 in the Tourbillon. Then the Barrage thriller took its course. The FCL showed morale and was able to equalize before the break thanks to goals from Ibrahima Ndiaye (38th) and Samuele Campo (45th).

Disappointment, euphoria – and then misery at the FCL

At the change of sides, there was still a good mood in Valais thanks to Filip Stojilkovics 1-0 (27th). But this tipped over shortly after the restart: Alexis Antunes (52nd) and Chris Bedia (54th) turned the game around for Servette with a double strike. And as if that wasn’t enough, Filip Ugrinic scored 3-2 for Lucerne in Zurich at almost the same time. The time: 5:46 p.m.

Anyone who thought that the last word had been spoken on this crazy Sunday afternoon was wrong. Suddenly Sion, who had been bloodless until then, braced himself against the threatening duel with Challenge League side Schaffhausen: First Itaitinga (78th) revived hope in Sion, 7 minutes later, at 18:12, Gaëtan Karlen brought the tourbillon for cooking – 3:3.

It stayed that way. Sion has thus secured relegation in extremis, Lucerne’s season finds its final climax in the barrage against FC Schaffhausen, despite a great race to catch up against the champions.
